Bike Florida 2013
Orange Blossom Express
Our opening weekend in Lakeland will feature routes and afternoon socials of beverages, snacks and guest speakers for both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday night, the City of Bartow has invited Bike Florida to their “Viva Florida 500” street party, featuring music, street performers, Spanish-themed food vendors and the celebration of the Valencia orange. Sunday night, the City of Lakeland will host a concert for Bike Florida at Lakeside Village, with music and more!
While in Clermont, the National Training Center is offering Bike Florida a special one-day ($10) or two-day ($15) pass. Get in a swim, take a yoga class or work out using state-of-the-art equipment. The National Training Center, www.usantc.com, includes a 70 meter x 25 yard outdoor heated aquatic center, a full fitness center with group fitness classes including yoga, Les Mills classes and more, a 400 meter track and field and locker rooms and showers. Bike Florida participants can show their wristband at the front desk to receive the discounted rate. A FREE seminar is scheduled Tuesday morning (our layover day) at 10am for Bike Florida participants and the topic will be “How to Recover Better”.
In Lake Wales, the city is pulling out all the stops for an afternoon of exploring downtown and an evening of dancing in the streets with a band playing Oldies music. Our last evening of the tour will be hosted by Bok Tower Gardens. Bike Florida participants will have free access to the gardens after 5pm to enjoy a sunset carillon concert. Relax on one of the many benches located along the paths while listening to the evening’s performance or delight in citrus-based desserts and adult beverages served with orange slices on the lawn adjacent to the tower. 100 flambeaux will illuminate the pathways and the Singing Tower will glow from within.
